Where Do Elves Go During the Off-Season?
Everyone knows that Santa's elves are pretty busy during the winter months, building all those toys to be given away to all the good boys and girls of the world. As you can imagine, working long hours during those months in preparation of the epic adventure of Santa Claus each year can be terribly exhausting. They need a vacation and they need sunnier climes.
And so, we find ourselves paying a visit to the majestic Hawaiian islands. There, the elves raise all sort of ruckus with the other vacationers. Who can blame them? These little guys need to blow off a little steam. You know what they say: when the cat's away, the mice will play. Without the supervision of Santa, these elves throw themselves a rather energetic party. Be prepared for a world of a good time.
Bowling with a Twist
Bowling is a favorite pastime of many people, but the version offered in this game is a little different. You see, the chief elf is challenging a series of opponents to a few games of bowling, but they're not using regular old pins. Instead, the ten pins at the end of the alley have been replaced by some rather cheeky elves. The results, needless to say, are incredibly hilarious.
Bowling is comprised of three main steps. First, you move your mouse to align where your player will begin his approach. When you've decided on a good starting location, hold down the left mouse button to bring up the power and angle indicator. Move the pointer upwards to increase power and downwards to decrease power. The direction of your shot is also determined at this point. After releasing the ball, the control does not stop! You can add spin by moving your mouse pointer to the left and right. The sensitivity level takes a little getting used to, so practice is the key!
The Best Offense is a Good Defense
As you send your ball sailing down the alley, you may see that there are icons floating along the way. You can collect these items by rolling your bowling ball over them. The green icons are offensive powerups. For example, you may have the ability to make your bowling ball twice as big. Another powerup adds boxing gloves to either side of your ball, and yet another adds a substantial speed boost.
The red icons are defensive powerups. These can be activated during your opponent's turn to bowl. They are designed to sabotage your opponent by widening the gutters, tossing oil slicks on the lane, or equipping the elf pins with anti-ball shields. Bear in mind that your opponent will be collecting both types of powerups along the way as well! This plays heavily into the strategy of this game.
Pop Culture References
Perhaps the most amusing part of your bowling experience will be the reactions of your elf pin-pals. They blurt out several pop culture references that will have you in stitches. Are you familiar with being smarter than a fifth grader, leaving Britney alone, or singing about Chocolate Rain? These elves are!
Comedy, action, sabotage, and "casual" bowling all wrapped up into a wonderfully tropical adventure. Elf Bowling: Hawaiian Vacation will not disappoint!
