'Twas a Dark and Stormy Night
Medieval tales always draw a certain air of interest, because there is something inherent to that era that instantly piques our fascination. This time around, we find a couple of great kings, a fearsome dragon, and just one knight who has volunteered to save the day.
Princess Helen was staying with her uncle King Sigmund when the kingdom was suddenly attacked by a wicked storm. The tornado swept through the land, destroying everything in its path. During this horrendous night, Helen's father, King Olgert, was struck by lightning and he wants his daughter by his side. Unfortunately, the road between the two castles has been completely and utterly destroyed.
To make matters worse, the great storm awakened Firemouth the dragon from his deep slumber and he's going around attacking the village people. How is Helen going to get home? With Knight Arthur and his men, of course! It's up to you to clear the road and lead her back to the safety of King Olgert's castle.
The Treacherous Trek Back Home
The chivalrous adventure will lead you through the countryside, transversing through small towns, beat-down swamps, and storm-ridden roads. With the workers at your disposal, the goal is to get through each stage of the quest as quickly, efficiently, and safely as possible.
The overhead view of the land shows the shack that your workers call their home and the next waypoint on your journey. Along the way, you will need to manage different resources, like gold, lumber, and food. These resources are used to erect new buildings that can aid in your quest and to provide for your workers so that they can complete their tasks.
A unique time- and task-management quest, you click on destroyed segments of road to repair them with one of your workers. The workers can also be deployed to retrieve bags of gold, build new farms, repair bridges, and much more.
The Utilitarian User Interface
The required tasks for each stage are shown in the top-left corner of the screen. These may include repairing a certain number of bridges, erecting certain types of buildings (like temples), or collect a certain amount of gold. It's all about managing your resources and your workers effectively.
For the resources, direct your eyes to the top-right corner of the screen. To build a new cottage (so that you can house an additional worker), you'll need ten units of lumber, for example. Prioritize your tasks and manage your resources accordingly.
A Fun Romp Riddled with Adventure
Fans of the time-management genre of casual games may be growing a little weary of games like Diner Dash and Cake Mania, so it's great to see a completely fresh look on this segment. You're not serving customers or managing menus. Instead, you're placed on a grid-like path that is filled with peril and unique challenges.
The whole quest feels a lot like something out of a fairy tale, complete with ravaging dragons, simple countryside folk, and the need to work the land to collect resources... and save princesses. Yes, King Sigmund may have promised Arthur the Knight a fantastic new castle upon his successful completion of the mission, but that's not why he's doing it.
It's about heroic deeds and love.
