Poirot is back!
Hercule Poirot is back in Agatha Christie: Dead Man's Folly. The famous crime novelist Ariadne (don't ask me how to pronounce that!) Oliver is organizing some sort of murder hunt game at the Nasse House estate. She describes it as a treasure hunt but with a detective twist. She's brought in Poirot because she has a feeling that something terrible is going to happen.
The hunt is on!
This being an Agatha Christie game, it features some of the best hidden objects gameplay around. It oozes with mood and atmosphere that do a great job of sucking you into the world.
The murder hunt has rules that will help you through it. One location in each chapter contains a murder hunt item. Underneath the item is a photo of the next location that will contain a murder hunt item. Each item will also hold a clue that contains an encrypted riddle, solving the riddle will help you figure out what the next object is going to be. At the end of all of this, the objective is to discover whodunit.
You'll also find "clue cards" hidden throughout the game. The first one I received when I found a bundle of metal wire. The card showed George Stubbs, one of the characters in the game, and it had a blurb of dialogue from him. Something tells me that these clue cards are going to be essential when figuring out who's behind everything.
A lovely looking world
The world of Agatha Christie: Dead Man's Foley is very alive and inviting. Like I said earlier, there's a lot of mood and atmosphere, and this is due to the fitting music and wonderful visuals. The world is very bright and vibrant, almost cheery, but you still get the sense that something could go horribly wrong in this world. It's a perfect setting for a murder mystery.
The visuals are also very impressive in a technical sense as well. Everything looks very realistic and what little animations the game features, like the fountain in the first scene, are very cool to look at. They all run very smoothly and enhance the entire experience.
Expertly hidden objects
The manner in which items are hidden in the various levels is very creative. Everything is hidden in plain sight, which is usually the case in these types of games, but that doesn't make them any easier to find. The creators took full advantage of the objects' shapes, sizes, and colors and made them seamlessly blend into the background. It doesn't matter if you're a hidden objects veteran, you're still going to find a pretty good challenge here.
A classic detective tale
Dead Man's Foley belongs right alongside all of the other Agatha Christie adventures. It's fun, it's challenging, and above all, it features a classic Agatha Christie detective tale that unfolds in a very engaging fashion. If you're at all a fan of detective stories or hidden objects games, which probably covers just about everyone, you're going to like this.
