The Explorer Returns!
No, not that explorer! I'm talking about Alabama Smith! We last saw him in Escape from Pompeii and now he's back in Alabama Smith and the Quest of Fate. This time the stakes are higher, the setting grander, and the action is more intense. Most important of all, it's just as fun as the first adventure, if not more so.
To put this product in the "hidden objects" genre is somewhat misleading and a little bit unfair, as it's a lot more than that. You'll be searching for objects, definitely, most of which will be hidden. But you'll be doing a lot more than that, like solving puzzles and piecing together clues. You're usually thrown into a sticky situation and in order to get out of it you'll need certain equipment. Looking for that equipment definitely fills that hidden objects need, and any fans of the genre will find a lot to love, but finding the object in question is only half the battle. You'll still have to figure out where, and how, you need to use it.
Machu Picchu
This time around the story takes our hero to the Peruvian town of Machu Picchu, a name that is undeniablely fun to say. Just try to keep a straight face, otherwise you won't be able to take the story seriously.
Alabama has discovered special crystals that can alter a person's destiny. Unfortunately, somebody set fire to his office and all of his notes burned up! The culprit obviously has ill intentions and our hero and the dean of the school agree that it would be catastrophic if the crystals ended up in the wrong hands. With that decided, we're off to Machu Picchu to find them first!
Channel Your Inner MacGyver
You'll find yourself in a lot of predicaments that you need to think your way out of. The challenge is very real, which is what sets this product apart from others like it. You'll really need to rack your brain and search every inch of your surroundings to solve certain puzzles. The game is by no means impossible, but it is difficult. If you find yourself stuck and getting frustrated, you can always use a hint to guide you to the next step in your journey.
As you progress, you'll gather items that may come in handy later. I loved stumbling upon a locked chest or an out-of-reach item and sorting through my inventory, looking for just the right tool. I may not be half as crafty in real life, but that's why this is escapist entertainment, right?
A Thrilling Adventure
Alabama Smith and the Quest of Fate is a blast to play, plain and simple. While the main character may have started out as a knock off of Indiana Jones, he's very much evolved into something more, something special. I finally feel that he's a hero that can stand the test of time. The first adventure was fun, but it was just a primer. This is the adventure game that I've been waiting for!
