Let Me Tell You a Story
Many people have gathered around a campfire to share some interesting and scary stories, but the legendary tale of the Hookman may have you sitting on pins and needles. A truly frightful story that very much mirrors the experience of being alone in the middle of a cabin in the woods, this hidden objects adventure is not for the feint of heart.
Christine was fully prepared for a romantic weekend with her boyfriend Patrick in a private forest cabin, but she had to meet him there. Venturing into the dark woods on her own, she quickly discovers that things aren't quite what they should be. The lights are out. The shutters are broken. And the shadows of the night could not be scarier.
A Free-Flowing Tale of Terror
Unlike most other games in the hidden objects genre, the action in this particularly title is not disjointed into distinctly separate stages. You do not scour a single scene for ten items only to move on to another location to repeat the process. Instead, Campfire Legends offers a clever combination of finding hidden items and solving point-and-click puzzles.
Navigating over to the shed next to the wooden cabin, you may be presented with a list of items that need to be found in order to progress to the next portion of the story. However, not all of the items on the list will be found in the shed itself. Some of these may be located outside the cabin instead.
Further still, there are no distinct "stages" in this game. Instead, the series of events unravel just as they do in real life: as a free-flowing adventure where plotlines twist and intermingle.
Avoid Danger and Solve Puzzles
There is more than meets the eye. Looking around in the shed for clues, you may discover that you can look more closely into an open drawer. There may be a toolbox there that is locked, but when you find the key to it, you can open the toolbox to reveal its contents. This added detail makes for a much deeper and richer experience.
The clever puzzles are even more interesting. With the aforementioned toolbox, you will need to find the required tools and other equipment in order to fix the shutters on the cabin. Getting back to the cabin windows, you will then need to figure out how to use the collected tools and equipment in just the right way. Other puzzles may involve logic and reasoning.
Who is the Hookman?
Be prepared for some positively horrifying scenes in this game, since there is danger lurking around every corner. Just as you search around in the living room of the cabin, you may notice that a dark shadow is lurking around outside of the cabin. Upon arriving back to the shed, you may be unpleasantly surprised by an unexpected visitor.
The hidden object play is clever, the in-game puzzles make for a robust experience, and the brooding soundtrack will send chills down your spine. But this is all just a campfire legend, right? There is no Hookman... is there?
