Documenting Chronicles in the Dream Journal

In what could possibly be the most imaginative game in the series thus far, The Chosen Child takes us on a journey filled with mystery, wonder, and terrific artwork. The stylized graphics will never be mistaken as being photo-realistic, but there is a definite artistic style to them that adds to the intriguing and enchanting atmosphere of this adventure.

Faye has gone on a quest, but she's not exactly sure what the destination is and why she is embarking on this quest in the first place. What she does know is that the experiences she has while in a dream state are starting to infiltrate what she believes to be the real world. Her persona in the fairy realm has made its way outside of her dreams, drastically affecting the world around her. What could it all mean?

By documenting all of the clues that she finds in the Dream Journal, she may be better able to decipher the origins of this strange events and why unknown characters seem to know her so well.

A More Organic Approach to Discovery

The conventional hidden objects title would send you from location to location with a list of items to find. These items presumably lead you closer to completing the game, but not all of them may seem particularly relevant. That's not the case with The Chosen Child. Instead, there is no list of items at all.

Finding herself in a strange treehouse, Faye is left to her own devices to decipher what is going on and where she fits into the grand scheme of things. Clicking on a locked door, for example, will tell you that you need to find a key hidden in the room. Finding this key and adding it to your set of tools, you may be able to open this door, moving on to the next step in your quest. The scenes are fully animated and interactive.

This fluid and natural approach to the narrative adds a fair deal to the appeal of this story. Rather than feeling like a passive observer, you feel like an active participant. Adding in the Art-Nouveau background style with its dynamic movements creates for a truly fulfilling quest.

The Power of Pieces and Jewels

At its core, the tale portrayed here progresses based on your retrieval of various Dream Pieces and Dream Jewels. By collecting these items, you unlock each successive step in the journey, learning a little more about Faye and where this path will lead her.

The gems and jewels are also intrinsically involved in the solving of the puzzles along the way. For example, you must first find all the available Dream Pieces and place them together for use in a strange device in one of the stages. The Dream Jewels must be arranged in a certain way for the gate to open, taking you to the next level.

From there, you just may be able to understand the true meaning and origins of The Chosen Child. Who knows what the next turn may bring?
