A Magical World
Kuros wastes no time sucking you into its world of magic and wonder. As soon as the game begins, a young, good-looking woman awakes in a beautiful forest with no idea where she is or even who she is. As you take the reigns, you must find a way out and uncover the mystery of how you ended up wherever it is you are.
Every part of the game simply feels magical, from the visuals to the audio to the gameplay, giving it a very enchanting presentation. It didn't take long for me to get truly hooked and forget about time altogether.
Put on Your Thinking Cap
This isn't your average hidden objects adventure, and I'm not just talking about its magical properties. No, Kuros requires you to think and solve puzzles as well as search for items. You'll find yourself dug into some pretty deep holes, figuratively speaking, and you'll have to put on your thinking cap if you're going to dig your way out.
Channel your inner MacGyver and explore the world around you to find items that you can use as tools. Need to get something that's out of reach? I bet you could use that rope! It isn't rocket science, but it isn't always easy, either.
Map Fragments
Aside from the exploring, you'll also need to collect map fragments that are scattered throughout the game. There are so many in each stage and you can't proceed until you've found them. This provides a good bit of hidden objects fun. You'll also find items that will grant you hints, which is great for when you find yourself stuck.
After you've found enough fragments, you can assemble them to complete a map and find a new location to go to. It's a simple mechanic, scouring places in search of maps that will show you new places to go, and it works quite well.
A Stunning Setting
The world around you looks fantastic. Each setting looks photo realistic, so much so that I'm not convinced that they aren't actual photos. The colors are bright and vibrant and everything seems so alive. The plant life in particular looks wonderful and gives me the urge to go outside and take a nature walk. I might if I wasn't so glued to my monitor!
The animations used in the game, of which there aren't many, look equally impressive. Important objects will twinkle and shine, and every so often, when you've solved some sort of puzzle, something will light up brilliantly.
Under Its Spell
Kuros is a great accomplishment and something that I can truly appreciate. It brings a wonderful new world to the table that's both fun and enchanting and it's an adventure that I'm sure to remember for a long time to come.
Most importantly, it's new and unique. You can tell a lot of love went into crafting this game and I think "special" isn't quite a strong enough word for it. If you're looking for a great adventure that isn't more of the same, you couldn't do much better than this.
