A Rivalry
Words and I have a weird relationship. We disagree a lot. I want to write something a certain way, but words don't like that, and to show their disapproval, they often come out misspelled and arranged in an improper order. When I was a child, I would attempt to explain this injustice to my teachers - tell them that the words themselves had sabotaged my paper - but they wouldn't believe me. I was forced to take bad grade after bad grade while words stared up mockingly from my paper. Well now I'm older, and with Word Spiral, I finally have the upper hand. You hear that, words? I'm coming for you!
Despite our differences, I love word games. I like to flex my impressive brain muscles and spell out words like atrocious and facetious and mailbox. Not only does this product let me do that, but I get to do so in a way that's really fun!
I Feel Dizzy
The game is called Word Spiral for a reason. The letters are arranged in a spiral, and as you use them, more feed into it. You can use a healthy selection of letters. Each time you choose one, you'll be able to connect to any letter in the general vicinity of it, which actually spans about four or five rows, giving you lots of options. After you've connected all of your pieces in the right order, simply hit the "enter" button at the bottom to submit it.
On the left of the screen, there is a crossword puzzle. Each time you submit a word, every letter in that word will be revealed in the puzzle. You also have a limited number of guesses to use, with which you can simply click on any blank square in the puzzle and try to guess what goes there. If you choose correctly, all other instances of it will be revealed. Once the crossword is completed, you can go on to the next level.
Each level also contains a bonus word. If you spell this word, you'll unlock a special item for you beach. Each level gives you a chance to add something to whatever beach you're currently on. Once you've completed that beach, you'll go onto the next one. I'm not sure what these locations have to do with words, but they sure are great to look at!
Word games make up a good chunk of the computer game market, and rightfully so. They're loads of fun, and on top of that, they really are educational. They're perfect if you want to brush up on your basic skills, but they also help you expand your vocabulary!
Three Game Modes
You get three game modes to choose from here.
Relaxed Mode doesn't have a timer, which makes sense, because you can't relax if the clock is ticking! However, it's not exactly a walk in the park, either! You have a limited number of words you can make before you're forced to guess the answer to the crossword!
Regular mode implements a timer bar and plays pretty much like a standard word game.
Speed mode is only for the near suicidal! It plays like regular mode, but you have much less time!
Perfect Speller
Word Spiral is among one of the finest word games I've played. Anyone itchin' to spell would get a kick out of this one!
